Kaleb’s Ski Race in Marquette
I thought I’d actually write about Kaleb’s race instead of just posting the results like usual. Especially since it’s his last high school race.
He is a Senior this year, and I’m so happy he made it to the state finals! He went up with his dad on Sunday evening or afternoon, but Jeff and I didn’t go up until yesterday morning because we didn’t want to pay for a hotel room. We had to get up at 3:15am and left about 4:15am. Jeff drove all the way, what a trooper! I was planning on writing some articles that are due Friday, but I was too foggy brained…LOL. I did sleep a little on the way up and during the last hour I did fire up my laptop and tried writing but was too distracted, so I Twittered instead. LOL.
We arrived in Marquette about 9:30am, and just missed Kaleb’s first run in GS. Boo. He was in first by a hundredth of a second! That’s how close the top racers were throughout the GS. In the 2nd run, he got third by 0.03, that’s 3 one hundredths of a second! So, overall, he tied for 2nd place. The kid that tied with him came in 3rd place the first run, and 1st place the second run. He was beat only by 0.02 by the first place skier.
In Slalom, he raced perfectly, but there were 5 others that were faster, so he got 6th place. Still awesome considering how fast some of these kids are.
We are so proud of him and kind of sad to see his high school racing days come to an end. I wish I would have gotten to go to more, but I’m so glad I was able to make it to this one! It was well worth the drive.
I imagine when he decides what school he’s going to for college, if they have a ski team, that he will be on it. One kid that was selling hoodies and t-shirts was already trying to recruit him to Northern. LOL.
Here are some of the photos and videos we Jeff took.
